Daniel Sturridge carefully studied a note handed to him by Jurgen Klopp on the pitch during Liverpool's defeat by Southampton on Wednesday.
With 15 minutes remaining of the EFL Cup semi-final first leg at St Mary's, Klopp handed the Liverpool striker what looked to be a detailed note as his side looked to level it up on the south coast.
Sturridge briefly showed the note to team-mate Adam Lallana, before scrunching the paper up and throwing it onto the floor.
The note didn't seem to help Liverpool, with Saints holding on to secure a first-leg lead thanks to Nathan Redmond's 20th-minute strike.
Speaking after the game, Sky Sports' Jamie Redknapp lightly suggested that the note may have been to encourage Sturridge to put more effort into the game.
"When that note came on, I think it said: 'Daniel, just run around a bit more!'. He just didn't do enough."
In truth, Saints could be heading to Anfield on January 25 for the second leg with a bigger lead, with Redmond twice going close in either half, while Cedric Soares also wasted a clear opportunity to grab a second in front of the home fans.
Klopp reintroduced Philippe Coutinho to the fold after a seven-week absence with injury, but the Brazilian could not claw Liverpool back level during his 30-minute cameo.
