Frank de Boer has left his job as Ajax boss days after his agent linked him with a move to Everton.
De Boer has had the final year of his contract cancelled after telling the Ajax board he wanted to go in the wake of Sunday's dramatic collapse in the Dutch title race.
Failure to win at De Graafschap handed PSV the Eredivisie and made it a second straight season without the title for the former Netherlands captain, who delivered four in a row following his 2010 appointment.
De Boer's agent said earlier this month the 45-year-old would "love to join a club like Everton".
It is understood that Roberto Martinez has been sacked as Everton manager, and in a parting statement released by Ajax De Boer said he will now "see what comes my way".
"I began to realise it was time for something else," he said. "That is better for me and I think also for Ajax.
"What I will do, I do not know yet. A year without a club is also an option. I'll see what comes my way."
