Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel admitted Roman Weidenfeller's brilliance kept his team in the game against Liverpool.
Liverpool will return to Anfield in a strong position after earning a 1-1 draw in Dortmund in their Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Divock Origi fired Liverpool into a first-half lead before Mats Hummels' header three minutes after half-time restored parity.
On Jurgen Klopp's first return to his former club, Tuchel admitted his side struggled to cope with Liverpool's game plan and they were indebted to goalkeeper Weidenfeller in particular for two saves he made in quick succession from Philippe Coutinho in the second half.
"We wanted to play with freedom and normal - our normal game - but we were tense and cramped in our style," he said.
"It as a great performance [by Weidenfeller]. I think that is fair in terms of his attitude and professionalism.
"It was an excellent performance in goal and his stunning saves kept us in the match."
