Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich has apologised for his error which led to Real Madrid's second goal in their 2-2 draw in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
The sides were level on the night after goals from Joshua Kimmich and Karim Benzema but the hosts went 2-1 ahead shortly after the interval when Ulreich completely missed a back pass from Corentin Tolisso, after realising he could not handle it, which allowed Benzema to score his second.
James Rodriguez brought his team level again but the Bundesliga side could not find another goal to see them through to the final, with Real winning 4-3 on aggregate, and Ulreich has taken to social media to apologise for the mistake.
"Words cannot describe how disappointed I am about leaving the Champions League," he wrote on his Instagram page.
"We really wanted to reach the final and we did our best and then this unnecessary mistake happened to me.
"I cannot explain it. I'm sorry ... for my team and for you fans."
Bayern team-mates including Javi Martinez, Rodriguez and Jerome Boateng offered their support to the 29-year-old on the social media platform.
Ulreich has made 44 appearances this season in the absence of the injured Manuel Neuer.
