In-form Bayer Leverkusen climbed to second in the Bundesliga following a 2-0 win at home to Mainz.
After a goalless first half at BayArena, Leverkusen - who began the day in sixth - went ahead three minutes into the second period when Leon Bailey cut in from the right to curl home left-footed from 25 yards.
Heiko Herrlich's side had lost just one of their previous 14 league matches ahead of kick-off and they secured another victory in the 68th minute thanks to a penalty converted by Brazilian defender Wendell.
The win leaves Leverkusen 16 points adrift of runaway leaders Bayern Munich.
In Sunday's second game, Wolfsburg ended their five-game winless streak by securing a 1-0 success at near-neighbours Hannover.
Turkey midfielder Yunus Malli scored the only goal, firing into the roof of the net 18 minutes from time.
The hosts came close to a late equaliser but Ihlas Bebou crashed his close-range shot against the crossbar in the 86th minute.
