Pep Guardiola says Bayern Munich must learn from their surprise 3-1 defeat to Borussia Moenchengladbach after "losing their discipline".

The Bavarians saw their unbeaten record in the Bundesliga come to an end after conceding three goals in 14 second-half minutes.

It is only the second time Guardiola's Bayern have lost this season and their first league defeat since losing 2-1 at Freiburg last May.

"We lost our control after they went 1-0 up and they started to counter-attack," said the Spaniard. "We have to be able to learn from this game that we should never allow that to happen.

"It can happen that you concede a goal but after the first goal we completely lost our discipline. That was not good at all. We ran straight into counter-attacks and that is the reason we lost today."

"It was difficult after the break because we kept losing possession. This game was a lesson that you should not neglect your own playing style."

The defeat saw Bayern's lead at the top of the table cut to five points points after Borussia Dortmund beat Wolfsburg later in the day.

"You can't throw a game away in five minutes," fumed Bayern captain Philipp Lahm "We made too many mistakes, which will be punished by any good team."

Gladbach head coach Andre Schubert said boldness and tactical bravado were the key to the shock win.

"It was a sensational performance from us," Schubert said."I've got to pay my team a huge compliment.

"We were not courageous enough in the first half, but we found our way forward more frequently in the second half and the lads did a great job.

"The first goal gave us more self-confidence and I'm really proud of the lads' performance."
