Brighton's hopes of signing Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez appear to be over after he said he wanted to stay in Spain.
Seagulls boss Chris Hughton is looking for competition for summer signing Mathew Ryan and made an offer for the 22-year-old.
Lopez spent last season on loan in the Premier League, but he was only Tottenham's third choice behind Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm and did not make a senior appearance.
But he has started both of Espanyol's La Liga games in 2017-18 and told Diario La Grada he would not be leaving the club he has represented for 10 years.
Lopez joined Espanyol's youth set-up in 2007 and made his professional debut in December 2014 in the Copa del Rey, going on to help steer them to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in nine years.
"I've turned down the offer because I want to stay here. In addition, the coach has always shown me his confidence," he said.
