Bale's first home start for Real Madrid was a memorable one as he scored twice and provided two assists for team-mates in an extraordinary 7-3 win over Sevilla at the Bernabeu.

The Welshman's low-key performance in El Clasico just days earlier was not the ideal backdrop but he banished those thoughts to sweep home the game's opening goal.

Collecting the ball from Karim Benzema, Bale curled a powerful shot into the top corner of the net. "That was the real Gareth," said Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.

In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale seized centre-stage with a stunning long-range effort in Real's three-goal win over Elche at the Bernabeu.

Picking up the ball on the right side of the pitch, he took two touches to set himself before firing a left-foot shot in off the underside of the bar.

Bale would only say it was "a nice goal" when speaking after the game, but it was a fine response to growing criticism of his performances in the preceding weeks.

Real Madrid 5 Rayo Vallecano 0, March 29 2014

This was something of a golden period in Bale's Real career when it came to quality goals and there was one to remember in the five-goal thrashing of Rayo Vallecano.

While his first was a tap-in, Bale's second goal of the night came at the end of a stunning run that began in his own half of the field.

Iago Falque and Anaitz Arbilla were left trailing in Bale's wake before he proceeded to stroke the ball beyond Ruben in the Rayo net.

Real Sociedad 0 Real Madrid 4, April 5 2014

Claudio Bravo is now Barcelona's goalkeeper but he is unlikely to forget the moment he was caught out by Bale during his days at Real Sociedad.

Bravo's poor clearance was seized upon by the Real Madrid winger and he drilled the ball into the vacant near side of the net from 30 yards out.

The strike, Bale's fourth in just three games, put Real Madrid two up and they would eventually go on to win the game 4-0 at the Anoeta.

Bale's driving run took him off the field of play as he went the long way around Barca defender Marc Bartra but his pace saw him get to the ball first before poking beyond Jose Pinto.

"The only thing I was thinking was that I had to get round him," Bale said afterwards. "I just had my eyes on the ball."

Real Madrid 4 Atletico Madrid 1, May 24 2014

Bale's header in the Champions League final against city rivals Atletico might not have been the most spectacular of his Real career but it was certainly the most significant.

Thibaut Courtois could only push Angel Di Maria's cross-shot into Bale's path and the world-record signing nodded home to give his side the lead in extra-time.

Real went on to score twice more in the added period to break Atletico hearts and ensure Bale's first season would finish with the club clinching La Decima.

Real Madrid 3 Espanyol 0, January 10 2015

Having Ronaldo stood alongside him at free-kicks could be daunting but Bale made light of it with a rocket of an effort in the home win over Espanyol last season.

Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, now a team-mate of Bale's, barely moved as he watched the ball rifle into his net via the post.

The goal helped end a two-game winless run and was the first of three goals in four games for the Wales international.

Real Madrid 10 Rayo Vallecano 2, December 20 2015

Sometimes it's the quantity as much as the quality and that was certainly the case in Real Madrid's 10-2 win over Rayo Vallecano just before Christmas.

Bale's four goals in Real Madrid's 10-2 La Liga win over Rayo Vallecano

Real had been outplayed early on but Bale's header levelled things up and by the time he'd forced the ball home from one-on-one situations to complete his hat-trick it was over as a contest.

And while Bale's fourth was otherwise unremarkable, it's one he'll remember - it marked the first time he's scored four in a league game in his career.

Valencia 2 Real Madrid 2, January 3 2016

Rafa Benitez's Real Madrid reign came to an end as his side failed to beat Valencia but Bale did his best to keep the former Liverpool manager in his job.

Bale rose highest to put Real Madrid 2-1 up over Valencia with a fabulous header

With Real down to 10 men, Bale's brilliant header into the top corner from Toni Kroos's free-kick put the visitors 2-1 up at Mestalla.

However, Valencia equalised soon after with Bale even missing the chance to restore the lead in stoppage time. Even so, this must go down as one of the best headed goals of his career.

Real Madrid 5 Deportivo 0, January 9 2016

There had been some speculation that Bale was among those in the squad keen for Benitez to continue but that didn't stop him marking Zidane's first game with a goal glut.

The first and third goals were both headers - he has scored more of them than anyone else in Europe's major leagues this season - but the second was the pick of the bunch.

Watch Bale bag a hat-trick for Real Madrid against Deportivo

Bale allowed Ronaldo's right-wing cross to come across his body before striking crisply with the side of his left foot to find the bottom corner of the net.

That goal brought up 50 for Real Madrid in his 108th appearance for the club. The price fee might have been hefty, but Bale has delivered some magical moments in return.
