Spanish and French press react to Zinedine Zidane's appointment as Real Madrid manager

Zinedine Zidane took his first steps in management on Monday after being handed Real Madrid's top job by Florentino Perez, but how has the news been received in the Spanish press and beyond?

The image of a fresh-faced Zidane standing by Perez fronts Catalan-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo, who say Real are attempting to "stem the crisis" at the Bernabeu with the appointment of the Frenchman.

Zidane was promoted from Real Madrid Castilla to replace Rafael Benitez, who was sacked on Monday after just seven months in charge at the Bernabeu.

AS say: "Perez discovered Benitez was the problem, and suddenly found the solution... ZineXin Zidane", the 'X' referring to Real's 10 managers during Perez's two terms as president over 12 years.

Marca call Zidane "The Solution", while referencing Perez's quotes on December 17 backing then-manager Benitez, calling him "the solution, not the problem".

Another Catalan-based newspaper, Sport, claims Zidane's appointment came with the backing of the Real players, and that Perez wants the 43-year-old to be Real's Pep Guardiola.
