Sevilla 1-0 Real Sociedad: Europa League hopes alive for caretaker Joaquin Caparros' side
Friday 4 May 2018 23:46, UK
Sevilla ended their winless streak and boosted their Europa League hopes with a 1-0 victory against Real Sociedad.
Ever Banega's second-half penalty earned caretaker boss Joaquin Caparros a winning start to his reign and secured the club a first win since beating Manchester United in the Champions League in March.
Sevilla are up to seventh in La Liga, which would secure a place in next season's Europa League qualifying rounds.
The hosts took the lead early in the second half after Diego Llorente fouled Sandro Ramirez, on loan from Everton, in the penalty area.
Banega put the spot-kick low to his left, beyond the reach of goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya who had gone the right way.

The visitors looked to make a quick response with Asier Illarramendi firing narrowly wide, while Sandro went close at the other end soon after.
Defeat means La Real's European hopes are all but over after slipping five points behind their opponents with two games to play.
