With Real Madrid struggling to find a way past a dogged Real Betis, Gareth Bale almost scored with an incredible flicked effort.
Chasing a first league win at home this season, Real Madrid were thwarted time and again by Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan, only to then concede late on to give Betis a first win over Real in 19 years, ruining Cristiano Ronaldo's return to domestic action after suspension.
Adan was in inspired form, and saved his best agility of the night for Bale. The cross was fired into the edge of the box, Bale arrived with the ball too low to head for goal, so instead leapt into the air, let the ball run through his legs, before flicking it towards goal. However, Adan was more than equal to it, as he sprung to his right and tipped the ball onto the post.
That save proved crucial, as Betis broke to net a stoppage-time winner through Sanabria and leave Real seven points behind leaders Barcelona.
