Zinedine Zidane may have to wait until April 3 for his first taste of El Clasico as a manager, but the new Real Madrid boss has history with Luis Enrique.
Zidane raised his hand to Enrique after the Barca midfielder complained to the referee that Zidane had elbowed Carles Puyol during a Clasico clash in April 2003.
Both sets of players clashed after the incident, which saw Zidane booked and Enrique, already on a yellow, escape without punishment.
The game ended 1-1 at the Bernabeu, just weeks before Real Madrid were crowned La Liga champions, while Barcelona finished sixth in a disappointing campaign under Radomir Antic after Louis van Gaal had left earlier in the season.
After Zidane was named Real Madrid boss on Monday following the sacking of Rafael Benitez, Enrique insisted he had no opinion on the Frenchman's appointment, and was not surprised with the change in manager.
"I was not surprised by Real Madrid's decision to dismiss Benitez," Enrique said on Tuesday. "That is the way things go in modern day football. This is nothing new. I do not think it is unfair on coaches. It is a risk that comes with the profession.
"We are all made aware of this when we do our coaching courses. We know this can happen and we all accept it.
We all go through a situation like this at some point in our career.
"I don't have any opinion on the new coach. I don't know what to expect from Zidane. I do not know him as a coach. I don't have a bad memory of him as a player."
