Gignac and Brandao secure 2-1 success
Marseille moved to within three points of Ligue 1 leaders Lille courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Bordeaux.
Reigning champions Marseille and 2009 winners Bordeaux have both had inconsistent campaigns but with the top half of the table so congested neither side could be counted out of the title race ahead of kick-off.
And it was Marseille who took the opportunity to climb from seventh to fifth and bring to an end a five-match winless run.
Andre-Pierre Gignac broke the deadlock midway through the first half and Brandao doubled their advantage on the stroke of the interval.
Bordeaux battled back after the break and reduced their arrears when Anthony Modeste converted a penalty on 74 minutes after Ludovic Sane had been fouled by Souleymane Diawara.
But Bordeaux could not find an equaliser and instead went down to a first defeat in 10 games, leaving them 10th in the standings and eight points adrift of top spot.
