Watch highlights and reaction from Ibrox as Rangers beat Aberdeen 3-0 in the Scottish Premiership

Graeme Murty saw Rangers ease to a handsome 3-0 victory over Aberdeen then told his players they must keep reaching the same standards.

The Ibrox side were looking to avoid three consecutive defeats in the league for the first time in more than 17 years before playing out a surprisingly one-sided encounter.

James Tavernier's double and Carlos Pena's goal gave the Glasgow team a merited win as they went third in the Scottish Premiership, three points behind Aberdeen and seven adrift of Celtic.

Caretaker manager Murty told Sky Sports: "I'm pleased for the players and I'm proud of them. We changed the shape, structure and personnel slightly.

"They responded with a really good performance. They've just shown the Ibrox faithful what they're capable of and that's the standard.

"Regardless of formation and tactics, the players have to implement what you put on in front of them.

"I thought to a man, they listened, they played for the team and were part of the team. Thankfully, the team had a really good success because of that.

"I thought some of the stuff we played was excellent at times. We've played in games like that and haven't managed to get the goals.

"We got the goals this time though and I think you saw the confidence flow through the team. That's what goals can do for you and why they're so precious.

"I'm glad we converted our chances and used them really well. We got off to a great start and we built on that.

"The players know what they're capable of and I know what they're capable of. I see these guys train and that's what they have to do. It's all that will satisfy our fans."

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes was furious with his team as they failed to match their own recent high standards - but he has promised it will be a different story come the weekend when the sides meet again.

He will, however, have to do without Ryan Christie after his late red card, while Gary Mackay-Steven is also a doubt after picking up a knock.

McInnes said: "I expect a more complete performance on Sunday. I expect us to impose ourselves far better than we did tonight.

"I've seen us losing headers inches above strikers, I've seen us not competing for second balls in the middle of the park. I thought we were negligent and that is a complete right across the board.

"We win together and lose together. Ryan has to learn. He got himself sent off foolishly. Now we're without him for Sunday. He suffers and we suffer as well."
