Rangers players support Rainbow Laces Day against Aberdeen

Rangers players will wear rainbow laces against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

The Scottish Premiership side will show their support for Rainbow Laces Day, the nationwide campaign to make sport more inclusive for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

While Rangers players will be kitted out with the special laces for the game at Ibrox live on Sky Sports, both captains will wear a rainbow armband.

Speaking ahead of the game, Rangers striker Kenny Miller said: "We're delighted to be involved in it, I think there are a number of SPFL clubs, if not everyone, involved in it.

"We, as a club, are delighted to be part of the initiative, obviously we want people to feel welcome and comfortable when they come and support the club, so we are delighted to be part of it and it's good to see so many see clubs north and south of the border involved in it.

"We've had people in to speak to us about it and what it means to them and I'll be wearing the laces tomorrow night as part of the support."

Rangers' support for the campaign has been praised by Stonewall Scotland. Policy and Research officer Sophie Bridger told Sky Sports News: "The teams are going to go out in their rainbow laces, their rainbow armbands, and make that show of support for the LGBT community.

"That sends such a strong message to their fans, not just to their LGBT fans but to everyone who's watching in the stadium and at home that actually this is something that really matters, that LGBT people should feel safe and included wherever they are."

Rangers go into the game on the back of consecutive defeats against Hamilton and Dundee, leaving the side nine points behind leaders Celtic and Miller is frustrated with their inconsistency this season.

"We need to find a level of consistency," he said. "This is why we are where we are at the moment and never put a run together.

"We win two games and, it's not a complacency but a feeling or a relief that we've managed to get a couple of results together, and then like in the last couple of games, the performances haven't been anywhere near as good.

"I'm bored of saying it, really bored of saying levels of consistency and performance [need to improve] and the same old nonsense every week."
