Rangers striker Kenny Miller has dismissed comments by Scott Brown, claiming the Celtic captain is simply trying to “noise people up”.

Earlier this week, Brown said Aberdeen would pose the biggest threat to his side's title aspirations, as they had when finishing runners-up in the previous two seasons.

But former Celtic striker Miller believes Rangers will provide a real challenge to the Hoops after they worked their way into the top flight of Scottish football from the bottom tier over the past four years.

Speaking ahead of the Premiership curtain-raiser against Hamilton on Saturday - live on Sky Sports - Miller said: "There is no way Scott Brown actually believes that.

"He is saying that to get a headline and noise people up. But let's be honest he knows from the (Scottish Cup) semi-final last year where yes, we won on penalties but dominated the game, that we were worthy winners.

"If it hadn't been normal time, it should have been in extra-time so he knows the challenge we are going to bring this year."

When asked if Brown's remarks were just part of the Glasgow rivalry, 36-year-old Miller added: "Again, I don't think Broony got his team's home scores against Aberdeen right.

"He said they came to Parkhead and got points but they never, so we will take that with a pinch of salt as well."

On Monday, Brown, who is looking to win his sixth successive top-flight title in Scotland, said Aberdeen had taken points off Celtic in Glasgow while the Hoops had struggled at Pittodrie.

However, Derek McInnes' side won both home games last season but lost twice away, while Celtic won all four meetings between the sides in 2014/15.

Celtic, who kick off their season away to Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday, face Rangers in the first Glasgow derby of the season at home on Saturday, September 10.
