Rangers are keen to recruit Joe Dodoo

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has hailed his latest transfer target Joe Dodoo as an "exciting striker" and hopes to finalise his transfer next week.

The 22-year-old free agent has been training with the Light Blues this week having been released by Premier League champions Leicester and Warburton says he has made an excellent first impression at Auchenhowie.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: "We are trying to get things to completion and get the paperwork finalised between the two clubs but we are hoping to have some news on that early next week.

"I see him as a young, exciting striker. I see him playing more central than out wide but we like players who have flexibility. If we have players who can alternate then that is of benefit for everybody.

"He's a good young player. We have got to add quality and value and he's got to add character off the pitch as well. He came across well, mixing in with the younger players as well as the senior ones."

Dodoo would become Rangers' ninth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Matt Crooks, Josh Windass, Jordan Rossiter, Niko Krancjar, Joey Barton, Matt Gilks, Clint Hill and Lee Hodson.

Warburton added: "Last season we were a lttle bit light but now we've got competition all round the pitch which is the way it should be. We're in good shape and we're still looking to get one or two more."

"It's probably too early for Joey (Barton)," Warburton said. "You will maybe see Niko (Kranjcar) for a short period and then look to introduce both of them on Tuesday in a greater capacity, but a limited amount of time.

"You will see a number of changes on Tuesday and then Friday. We will rotate everyone from the keepers right the way through. The young ones will be included too.

"Wes (Foderingham) will certainly start on Saturday and Matt (Gilks) will come in on Tuesday. Lee Hodson will start on Tuesday, Josh Windass will start on Tuesday."
