Brendan Rodgers insists he is focused on managing Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has played down links with the vacant manager's job at Leicester and says he is focused on his job at Celtic.

The Celtic boss is one of the favourites to succeed Claude Puel, who was sacked on Sunday after less than 16 months in charge at the King Power Stadium.

Rodgers, who took Liverpool to the brink of the Premier League title before falling just short in 2014, has been continually linked with a return to England's top flight after dominating Scottish football with Celtic.

Highlights of the Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Motherwell

But speaking after the 4-1 win over Motherwell which took Celtic eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Rodgers told Sky Sports News he was concentrating on his role at Celtic Park.

"I don't feel anything. In my two-and-a-half years here there has always been speculation around various jobs that have come up," said Rodgers.

"I just think it's the nature of it. My focus was very much on the team today and the players. They were absolutely brilliant and that has been my only focus really."

Away from the Leicester job, Rodgers was annoyed with the manner of Motherwell's goal.

Celtic had put the ball out when Ryan Christie went down injured but instead of throwing it back to them, Motherwell played on and made the score 2-1 when Gboly Arriyibi slotted home.

Rodgers said: "I think Motherwell had an opportunity then to do something in the spirit of the game but chose not to and went on and were pressing for the equaliser.

"I didn't ask, that's Stephen [Robinson's] job as a leader, to initiate that. They were happy enough to push on and give themselves a chance in the game.

"Referees get criticised a lot up here but you have to shine a light onto the players at Motherwell, it was a real disappointing act on a sporting field."
