Patrick Roberts has returned to parent-club Manchester City for treatment on a hamstring problem that could keep him out for up to three months.

The 20-year-old winger, on loan for a second spell from the Premier League leaders, was taken off 11 minutes into the Scottish Premiership draw with Motherwell on Wednesday.

He did not play in the 5-1 win over Motherwell at Celtic Park on Saturday, having sustained a recurrence of an injury that he picked up against Kilmarnock in October.

Boss Brendan Rodgers said: "Patrick is going to be out for a period of time. It could be anything up to three months.

"He is going back down the road to Manchester City to have another scan on it. We will wait for the result, but he will certainly be out for the foreseeable future. It is just unfortunate."

Roberts has made 12 appearances for Celtic so far this season, scoring one goal and he has been a key player along with Moussa Dembele, Scott Sinclair and Nir Bitton, who all picked up knocks against the Steelmen.
