New Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is looking forward to linking up with former Fulham team-mate Patrick Roberts.

The pair came through the ranks at Craven Cottage before Roberts moved to Manchester City, from whom he is on loan for 18 months with the Scottish champions.

Roberts has become a favourite of the Celtic fans following a string of impressive performances in the latter stage of the season, scoring six goals in 13 games as the club secured a fifth successive title.

And new Bhoy Dembele, who arrived at Celtic Park on a four-year contract in June, revealed he contacted Roberts shortly before becoming a Hoops player.

Dembele told Celtic TV: "It will be nice to play alongside him again. I hope we can link up together. We grew up together at Fulham where we were doing some good stuff and I hope we can produce that again at Celtic.

"I spoke to him before I joined Celtic and he told me about the club and everything. He just said, 'It's a massive club and the fans are unbelievable and always behind the team'.

"He also says that it's a good team that likes to play football and that's what I like to do, so hopefully I can help the team to progress."

Dembele has settled quickly as he works on his fitness, having arrived after pre-season training commenced, and he hopes to make his debut in Wednesday's match against Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has indicated the 19-year-old is unlikely to play 90 minutes, but will almost definitely feature as the squad prepares for the forthcoming Champions League qualifiers.

Dembele said: "I have found it very good as the boys are very friendly and I'm settling in well. I am enjoying training but I am still getting fitness and it's all about getting that and being ready for the season.

"I have found the boys very good and they have obviously been training more than me but it's a nice team and we are just getting ready for the challenges to come.

"I am training twice a day and it's all about fitness and getting ready and I hope to have some game-time so I can be ready for the Champions League next week."
