Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has apologised for his outburst at being substituted during the 3-1 defeat by Molde on Thursday.

Commons had brought Celtic back into the Europa League tie in Norway with a strike 10 minutes after the break, but on a miserable night of defending from the visitors, they conceded a third goal inside a minute.

And when Celtic boss Ronny Deila decided to introduce another striker, Commons' reaction to being replaced by Nadir Ciftci with 15 minutes remaining was played out in front of the cameras.

The 32-year-old threw a tantrum inside the technical area, including a verbal outburst towards Deila and assistants John Collins and John Kennedy.

Delia was critical of Commons in his post-match press conference, claiming it was 'not acceptable and disrespectful' and the former Derby and Scotland midfielder has now spoken of his regret at the incident.

Speaking at Celtic's Lennoxtown training complex on Friday, he said: "I'd like to apologise for my reaction last night, something that should never be shown publicly on the field.

"I was very frustrated at how the night had gone. However, I did not handle this in the right way. My frustration at losing games and my desire to win will never change.

"I know we are all part of a team at Celtic and I am proud to be part of this team. I want this team to win and I am sure we can come together, work hard and get the results needed to qualify from this group.

"I still have every confidence we can do this and in a fortnight we have the chance to make amends. That's the motivation now for us all."

And Deila is keen for everyone at the club to move on from the incident, and the latest miserable result on their continental travels which sees them bottom of Group A with just two draws from their opening three matches.

Kris Commons has apologised for his outburst after he was substituted in Celtic’s 3-1 loss to Molde in the Europa League.

"Kris came to me and apologised at once and that's very good," he said. "We have dealt with it and now we have to move on.

"There is a lot of emotion on the pitch but they have to do it in the right situations and he understands that as he is a grown man. A lot happens in the heat of the game but we have to have discipline and stay together."

Asked what specifically had irked Commons when he was taken off, Deila, who said his player will be available for selection against Dundee United on Sunday, added: "I won't go into that. It's between us and I am happy with way things are now."
