Jermain Defoe scored his third goal for Rangers as Steven Gerrard's side thrashed Hamilton 5-0 at the HopeCBD Stadium.

Ryan Jack (16) opened the scoring with a drilled, right-footed shot from outside the box, before Defoe (17) added a second just a minute later with a close-range header.

The game was all-but over when Scott Arfield (24) added a third with another well-taken strike from outside the box, and there was no doubt about the result when James Tavernier (44) scored a fourth from the penalty spot shortly before half-time.

Hamilton were more resilient in a closely-fought second half, but they struggled to threaten a Rangers side coasting towards the final whistle and all three points.

Kyle Lafferty (88) completed the rout in the closing stages, with the thrashing leaving Hamilton 11th in the table on 18 points, below Dundee on goal difference.
