James Collins scored twice on his return to Shrewsbury as League One leaders Luton won 3-0 at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Collins, who had two spells at the Shrews earlier in his career, took his goal tally for the campaign to 18 as he scored in either half.

Defender Matty Pearson was also on target for the Hatters as they moved six points clear at the top of the table.

Shrewsbury started brightly with Greg Docherty's early 20-yard drive saved by visiting goalkeeper James Shea.

Docherty then fired just over after Shea was unable to hold on to a Fejiri Okenabirhie effort.

Luton took the lead on the half-hour as Collins fired in from six yards after Luke Berry headed back Alan McCormack's cross from the left.

The visitors doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half as Pearson's cross from the right found its way into the top corner of the net.
