Cambridge secured their second successive goalless draw as they shared the spoils with Newport.
The U's went close in the 16th minute when Luke Hannant's free-kick was nodded back to Jabo Ibehre, who screwed his shot wide of the target. Hannant then saw a shot from outside the area ricochet off a defender and just wide of Tom King's post.
With half an hour gone Joss Labadie's bouncing effort from the edge of the area went wide, before Cambridge lost fullback Kyle Knoyle to injury following a lengthy delay.
The U's pressed after the break and forward Sam Smith was just unable to reach Dan Jones' cross from the left, before Labadie's header at the other end was smartly held by Dimitar Mitov on 54 minutes. King was called upon to beat away Hannant's attempt from distance.
The closest to a goal for either side came three minutes from the end when Robbie Willmott's piledriver from the edge of the box was well saved by Mitov.
