Tristan Abrahams had given Mike Flynn's men the lead and it looked like his strike would be enough to ensure Newport started 2020 with a bang after a poor run of form in December.

But it was Tozer who had the last laugh as he grabbed a late leveller against his old employers.

Cheltenham were the better side in a first half which was low on quality.

Sean Long had a shot blocked by Ryan Haynes with striker Jamille Matt the only bright spot for a struggling Newport side who looked low on confidence.

Josh Sheehan's free-kick hit the wall for the Exiles, but Cheltenham had the best chances.

Mickey Demetriou - who suffered a knock - denied Tahvon Campbell who then had an effort deflected wide as the first half ended scoreless.

Cheltenham manager Michael Duff received a booking from referee Peter Wright after expressing his frustration at the official giving a free-kick when his team were in on goal.

Newport's hopes of three points were ended when Chris Hussey crossed from the left and Tozer slammed home from close range to boos from the fans who used to cheer his name.
