Bournemouth's 12th-place Premier League finish a huge achievement, says Eddie Howe

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe hailed his team's 12th-place Premier League finish, secured thanks to a 2-1 victory at Burnley on the final day of the season.

The visitors came from behind to win 2-1 at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon courtesy of strikes in the final quarter of an hour from Joshua King and substitute Callum Wilson.

However, despite falling short of last season's ninth-place league finish - when they collected 46 points - Howe still thinks his players have performed better this time around in picking up 44 points.

"The only disappointment would be from the outsiders looking into our club that we finished below where we were last season," he said.

"But I think that is more of a compliment to last season than a criticism of this - to finish 12th in the Premier League, when you look at the teams below us, and the size of those clubs, is a huge achievement again from a really talented group of players.

"The marker that I laid down to the players at the end of the game there is that we can do better, we must do better and the work is already starting towards that."

Looking ahead to the summer, though, Howe refused to be drawn on just how active Bournemouth will be when the transfer window reopens for business on June 9.

"It is very difficult to call - I can say 'yes' now, I hope to be (busy)," he said. "But the reality is you never quite know how the market will be.

"And especially with a World Cup year and the window closing earlier, there are a lot of unknowns. So we will wait and see…"
