Bournemouth have applied for the temporary south stand at the Vitality Stadium to remain in place.
Planning permission for the Ted MacDougall Stand - constructed following the Cherries' promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in 2013 - required it to be removed and the land restored within five years.
With that deadline approaching, the Premier League club have made a request to Bournemouth Borough Council for the condition to be removed in order to maximise attendances.
Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said the application would not affect the club's long-term plans to move to a new ground.
"The south stand has been an important part of the club's growth over the last five years," he told the club's website.
"Our home fixtures, both in the Premier League and cup competitions, sell out and it is crucial that we keep the south stand in place to allow as many supporters as possible to continue watching the team.
"The application has no impact on our intention to build a new stadium within Kings Park."
The Vitality Stadium has a capacity of just under 11,500.
According to the Dorset club's website, a decision on the removal of the condition is expected to be made in April.
