Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman will be on the sidelines for Wednesday's Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield.
Manager Eddie Howe fears that the 30-year-old could be out for the remainder of the campaign.
Surman has made 22 appearances this season but was forced off with a knee injury during the 0-0 draw with Southampton on Saturday.
Howe told the media on Tuesday morning: "Andrew Surman will definitely be out and that's a blow for us.
"It's hard to say right now, but that could be his season."
Howe's side claimed a first ever win over Liverpool earlier this season, winning a thrilling game 4-3 at the Vitality, and they have suffered narrow 1-0 defeats on their last two trips to Anfield.
"Liverpool will be a really tough test for us," said Howe. "We respect them and their manager. We've done okay at Anfield in recent games.
"The home game against Liverpool was arguably our stand-out game of the season so far, but it's of no relevance now. This is a new game."
Two wins and a draw in three games have taken Bournemouth seven points clear of the drop zone but they now face a tough run of fixtures, with the Liverpool clash to be followed by a home game with Chelsea and a trip to Spurs.
"We want to gather as many points as we can," said Howe.
"The challenges in our next three games are tough, but ones we have to relish. We're in a good place at the moment. We're also aware of how quickly things can change in football."
