Eddie Howe is keen for Bournemouth to create history on Saturday when the Cherries go in search of a first-ever victory at Southampton.
Bournemouth are yet to register a win at their south coast rivals in 12 attempts, nine of these at Southampton's former ground The Dell.
All three of their competitive trips to St Mary's have yielded 2-0 defeats but, with Bournemouth almost safe from relegation, Howe's team will take to the field feeling up to the challenge.
Looking ahead to the 5.30pm kick-off, Howe told the club's website: "It's a case of looking at the game, knowing its importance especially with the games we've got to come.
"We've never won away at Southampton and we want to create history. If we can get a result, we'll see what happens from there.
"From our perspective, it is a slightly different game, they're the nearest club to us, so the supporters feel the importance of this game and we respect that.
"We acknowledge that it's a difficult game and we want to get a result for the supporters."
Thanks to seven points from their most recent three Premier League games, Bournemouth stand nine points clear of the drop zone with as many games remaining.
And on the back of this important run, Howe added: "We hope we've found a formula. We've had three really good results but we've got a long way to go.
"Games like this away at Southampton will define that. We're looking for a performance first and foremost and then hopefully the result will follow."
As for their 3-1 home defeat by the Saints in December, he went on: "It was difficult because of the result. We played well in the first half but in the second half Southampton were the better team. That lingers so we want to put that right on Saturday."
The two sides are level on points in the table although Saturday's hosts have two games in hand.
