Bournemouth 1-1 West Brom: Eddie Howe hails Artur Boruc after penalty save

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe hailed goalkeeper Artur Boruc after his brilliant penalty save helped earn a 1-1 draw with West Brom.

Boruc was at fault for the game's opener, as his poor clearance went straight to Jonathan Leko, who laid the ball off for Jonny Evans to supply Saloman Rondon with the chance to score, which he converted.

However, after Tommy Elphick was penalised for a foul on Craig Dawson just before half-time, Boruc made amends by superbly keeping out Craig Gardner's spot-kick, much to the delight of Howe.

"It was an outstanding save," Howe said. "Artur is an outstanding goalkeeper, and he's saved some good penalties for us over the years.

"It was a massive moment for us because if we'd gone down 2-0 it might have been a bridge too far."

Matt Ritchie punished the Baggies for that miss, earning his side a late point with a header, but Howe admitted he did expect more from his players in their final home match of the season.

"It was a difficult game, such a tough side to break down and score against," Howe said. "It was a mixed bag. We didn't show much in front of goal. We have to make sure we don't carry it on to next season.

"When you look at the other clubs in and around us, you realise what an achievement it is staying up. The players have been magnificent."
