Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says fans will not see the best of Callum Wilson until next season as he builds his fitness after serious injury.
The 24-year-old, who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in September last year, came on as a 90th-minute substitute as the Cherries won 2-1 at Aston Villa on Saturday.
The striker is likely to be on the bench again on Sunday when Bournemouth take on a Liverpool side fresh from their incredible 5-4 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night.
And Howe says fans should not expect too much too soon from Wilson, who scored five goals in six games before suffering the injury against Stoke.
"It was great to be able to write his name on the team sheet," said Howe. "It gave everyone a lift and I'm sure it gave him a lift too.
"I hope we'll see more of him but I'm not going to say he'll start games and put that pressure on him.
"We need to keep a close eye on him and make sure he's building up his strength, his touch, his game awareness.
"It's just great to have him training around us every day. He hasn't had a reserve game yet to he is still some way short of his best. I don't think we'll see that until next season."
Howe expects Liverpool to provide a stiff challenge even if Jurgen Klopp rotates his side following Thursday's emotional win at Anfield.
"I watched it. It was a great game, with two quality teams playing at the top of their game," he said. "It was one of those famous European nights at Anfield and you can see what Klopp has done with them - they're a strong team.
"I think he's imprinting his ideas on the side. You can see that with the way they press and work. It was a hallmark of his Dortmund team. I think it will be a good game, but we know they've got some very good players.
"Possibly we'll see a different team. They might rotate their side, with some big games to come. But we'll anticipate a hard-working Liverpool team.
"The media are so forceful these days. The players will have read 'we are safe etc'. But I want us to give our very best and give the supporters what they want. We weren't happy with how we played against Tottenham and Man City and we want to do better, especially against the top sides.
"When you get to this stage, you're looking at individual games and trying to get the maximum from those. We are trying to enjoy them and learn from them."
