Eddie Howe says Bournemouth paid the price for a slow start and need to learn from top teams like Tottenham

Eddie Howe maintained that Tottenham are the best team his Bournemouth side have faced this season after succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at White Hart Lane.

The Cherries boss first made the remark in the build up to Sunday's game and after Harry Kane's double and a Christian Eriksen strike condemned his side to a first defeat in five games, he stood by his comment.

"No disrespect to anybody else but from our eyes they've been the best team we've played in both games," Howe told Sky Sports.

"They're a side full of energy, lots of quality with the ball and certainly a team for us to look at and try and emulate."

However, despite praising the performance of Mauricio Pochettino's team, Howe felt his own side made life far too easy for their hosts.

"We came here full of confidence, knowing that they're a very good side but we didn't deliver a good enough performance with or without the ball," he added.

"We were loose in possession, ragged out of possession. It was a really good learning curve for us, they're a top class side and we have some way to go."
