Brighton boss Graham Potter says his team prepare for every opponent in the same way, irrespective of their position in the table

Brighton boss Graham Potter says his squad are fully focused on Saturday’s trip to Newcastle and will not be dwelling on previous results.

Burnley scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw at the AMEX last Saturday to deny Brighton their first home win of the season.

But speaking ahead of this weekend's game at St James' Park - live on Sky Sports - Potter insisted they will look to build on an impressive recent record against Newcastle that has seen them win two and draw two of their previous four Premier League meetings.

"The next game should be the most important, that's how we view it," said Potter.

"We certainly don't go in there thinking, 'this is not Man City, so it's going to be easy or we've got more of a chance'.

"You just have to play your game and do your best. The opposition can cause you a problem in the Premier League wherever you go.

"The previous match [against Burnley] was tough against a team that it's hard to create chances against, hard to control, and I thought we managed the game quite well.

"It was obviously disappointing not to get the three points but that's the nature of the Premier League.

"Every game is a different one that provides a real test and we just have to try and keep improving."

Image: Andy Carroll could feature for Newcastle for the first time since his return to St James' Park

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll trained with his team-mates on Friday and could make his first appearance for the Magpies since returning on a free transfer from West Ham over the summer.

"There are not many players like Andy Carroll around, so he will give them another option," added Potter.

"I've been impressed with how their front three have performed. It's a team that went away to Tottenham and won.

"They were competitive at Liverpool [in a 3-1 defeat] before a couple of errors made the scoreline go away [from them] a little bit.

"They've got good players, St James' Park is a hostile place and the crowd will get behind them and they will want to use that in a positive way."
