Chris Hughton says his Brighton side will respect the competition of the Premier League when they host Manchester City on Sunday.
Brighton know they could potentially stop league leaders City from retaining their Premier League crown by getting a result at the Amex Stadium.
Liverpool can clinch their first title of the Premier League era with a win against Wolves if Pep Guardiola's side drop points.
Hughton is aware of the responsibility on his players' shoulders and promised the Seagulls would try their best to get a result.
"The message will be about having respect for this division and how competitive it is," Hughton said.
"It's a home game for us. Irrespective of the results we have had against the big team, our philosophy has always been the same - how can we win this football match?
"It so happens that this game has a lot of meaning and we have to treat it with the respect it deserves. We have to try our best to get a result.
"We can win any game if the elements are in our favour. If we play well enough against the top six, you are also reliant that they are not at their best.
"We need to get that balance right and defend well. We are capable of that."
Brighton secured their Premier League safety two weeks ago after a disappointing run of results in the second half of the season, and Hughton admits his relieved group of players will need to do better next term.
"I think it's a job done," he said. "If we were asked at the start of the season if we are happy to retain our Premier League position and reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup - we would have taken it.
"Certainly there have been some lows, periods we have had where we could have done better in the home games where we did so well last season.
"Reality is that we haven't finished dramatically away from where our level of club should finish.
"It is a little bit of relief at the end of the season because of what could have been. We will hope to be better next season."
