Finishing position: 16th
Total points: 37
FA Cup: Fifth round
Carabao Cup: Third round
Top scorer: Steve Mounie (seven)

Huddersfield's first season in the Premier League will live long in the memory for the club's supporters. David Wagner's side defied everyone's expectations to achieve promotion from the Championship and they repeated the feat to avoid an immediate return.

An emphatic 3-0 win away to Crystal Palace on the opening day showed the potential, and Wagner's team went on to secure a string of impressive results over the course of the season. There were worrying losing runs before and after Christmas, but they never lost hope and they never stopped battling.

The famous 2-1 win over Manchester United in October was a highlight and so too was the 1-1 draw at Chelsea which secured their survival. The wild celebrations at Stamford Bridge showed just how much it meant.

CHARLIE NICHOLAS' VERDICT

Managerial review

I didn't give them a chance to be honest but their early-season form was good and to win at Manchester United gave them that real belief. David Wagner completely abandoned the philosophy of pressing high, but to adapt and survive is a tremendous success story. Full credit to him, he has proved he deserves his place at the highest level.

Player of the Year

I'm actually going for the goalkeeper, Jonas Lossl. He does make a few silly mistakes, although part of that is because he's asked to pass from the back, but he makes some unbelievable saves, including the one from Chelsea's Andreas Christensen on Wednesday night which kept them in the Premier League.

2018/19 prospects

Staying up is worth a fortune to the club but I think they'll need to buy better in the summer as the strikers were too similar and they could do with a bit more pace at the back. They need more from Mooy as he's their best passer but it is all about recruitment if they are to avoid another relegation battle, although they've proved they are capable and a lot of us pundits wrong.

Sky Bet odds for relegation in 2018/19: 11/8
