Carlos Carvalhal says Swansea's win over Watford compensates for tough week

New Swansea City boss Carlos Carvalhal said his side's dramatic 2-1 win over Watford made up for a tough week.

The Portuguese manager left his role at Sheffield Wednesday on Christmas Eve following a defeat to Middlesbrough but was soon back in the game when he was appointed as Paul Clement's successor at the Liberty Stadium.

Late goals from Jordan Ayew and Luciano Narsingh turned things around for Swansea at Watford to win the points.

"I feel compensated; to not sleep and come direct from Sheffield to Swansea with no sleep as I want to be there," Carvalhal said. "Me and my staff got in the car at 4 o'clock in the morning as we wanted to be there for training."

Carvalhal had only enjoyed two training sessions with his players prior to the game at Watford, so could be forgiven for their sluggish start.

He said: "We don't play the first 45 minutes as we wish because we had some problems, especially when the No 8 connects the game in the back of our midfield and we had some problems to control. In the last 15 minutes, we solved this.

"Second half we start taking risks, putting players in attack, all three players we put on affect the game.

"I will not say we deserved the win, as we played against a good opponent who had good chances. Luck is part of the game and they were lucky when we hit the back."

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski made a crucial save from Andre Gray to keep the score at 1-0 prior to the equaliser, but Carvahal was pleased for the entire team.

"We had some parts where Lukasz did a fantastic save," he said.

"I must say to my players I am very happy with what they did on the pitch, about the commitment, the quality and in the difficult situation."
