Ray Wilkins has told Premier League Daily that he is not sure whether Paul Clement and Gary Rowett have the Premier League know-how to save Swansea.
The Swans are looking for their third manager of the season, having fired Bob Bradley following their 4-1 Boxing Day defeat at home to West Ham.
Bayern Munich assistant Paul Clement is currently favourite for the job with the bookies and former Birmingham manager Gary Rowett is next in the betting.
But neither has Premier League managerial experience and, with only goal difference keeping the Swans off the bottom of the table, Wilkins thinks a veteran boss may be needed.
Regarding Clement's candidacy, he said: "Obviously it did not work out as well as Paul would have lived it to have done at Derby [sacked earlier this year with the Rams fifth in the table].
"That was unfortunate but Paul is an excellent coach. As a manager, I have no idea what Paul is like.
"Certainly, as a coach, he is first class and obviously working with [Bayern Munich boss] Carlo Ancelotti, he will have gained more experience working with top quality players.
"The Premier League is something I imagine he would aspire to but it is not easy. You are going into a club that are really struggling at the moment.
"They are very down, the players, they have just lost a really nice guy. And Gary Rowett has never experienced that situation, albeit he did a wonderful job at Birmingham.
"I think they need a bit of experience to go in there now and wind a few up."
Wilkins thinks that a combination of experienced boss Harry Redknapp and Swansea man John Hartson could "most certainly" work well at the Liberty Stadium and also put in a good word for former England boss Roy Hodgson.
"His organisation in the Premier League when he was with Fulham was exceptional," said Wilkins.
"They were very difficult to beat."
