Garry Monk was disappointed with gifting Arsenal two goals after a positive first half.

Swansea manager Garry Monk was left to lament the concession of two 'gifted' goals to Arsenal after his side were defeated 3-0 by the Gunners at the Liberty.

The Swans now have just one win in their last seven and slipped back a place to 13th in the Premier League after this defeat.

But Monk felt his side could take plenty of encouragement from their first-half performance against the title challengers.

The Swans were the better side before the break but Bafetimbi Gomis squandered a great chance to put them into the lead and they were denied a penalty when Per Mertesacker appeared to block a free-kick with his arm.

Phil Thompson says that a change in attitude at half time was key to Arsenal's win over Swansea while Garry Monk's side will be ruing missed opportunities.

And Arsenal then eased into a 2-0 lead after the interval when Olivier Giroud was left all alone to head home a corner, before Laurent Koscielny tapped into an empty net after Lukasz Fabianski failed to deal with a high ball.

Monk said: "There were a lot of positives from our display. Our concentration was exceptional in the first half and we had some good chances.

"We should really have taken the lead and were very much on top I thought.

"But then we gifted them two goals. You can't do that against any team, let alone a quality side like Arsenal.

"Unfortunately those two goals, from mistakes by ourselves, gave us too much of a mountain to climb in that second-half.

"It is just a shame because we came out and we were so positive. Two mistakes have ultimately cost us the game."

Monk felt his side should definitely have had a first-half penalty and also agreed that Koscielny's goal would often have been disallowed for a foul on Fabianski.

"It is a definite handball (from Mertesacker)," said the Swans boss. "He raises his hand towards the ball so it is intentional."

And regarding the second goal he added: "Nine times out of 10, I have seen them given as a foul.

"I think maybe in the lead-up to that, Fab could have punched the ball rather than try to catch it, but I have seen them given every single time.

"I've played in many games where, whenever the keeper is touched, a foul is given, but I don't expect things to go for us.

"I feel for the players because we were much better, much more like ourselves."
