Wigan will have to wait another week to get their hands on the Sky Bet League One title following a 1-1 draw with struggling AFC Wimbledon at the DW Stadium.
Michael Jacobs netted the equaliser, cancelling out Joe Pigott's first-half opener, to leave Latics two points clear of second-placed Blackburn with one match remaining.
The visitors shocked the home fans by taking the lead after 24 minutes through Pigott, who took delivery of a lovely pass from Lyle Taylor before slipping the ball past Christian Walton.
It was almost 2-0 within four minutes, when Walton had to pull off a fabulous save to deny Dean Parrett.
Wigan were struggling to find the form that's seen them top the division for much of the season, and sent on Nick Powell and James Vaughan from the substitutes' bench on the hour to try to make a difference.
Within nine minutes, the home side had equalised with Jacobs finding the bottom corner, via a slight deflection.
And the final quarter was all Wigan, who knew a single goal would be enough to secure them the title.
However, they found Wimbledon goalkeeper George Long in imperious mood, with Ryan Colclough and then Will Grigg somehow thwarted from point-blank range in a frantic finale.
