Plymouth Argyle claimed only their second league win of the season as Joel Grant's goal halted AFC Wimbledon's momentum in a 1-0 victory.
An evenly-contested first half saw neither goalkeeper tested, with the best chance falling to Wimbledon's George Francomb, who bent the ball over and wide after good play from Lyle Taylor.
The Pilgrims started the second half brightly as the home side changed shape to a 4-4-2 and they made the breakthrough when Graham Carey sliced through the defence and slid the ball across for Grant to finish off the underside of the bar.
Neal Ardley's team tried to respond with more urgency, testing Argyle goalkeeper Remi Matthews.
Matthews was signed on emergency loan on from Norwich on Friday, but he repelled all attacks, notably tipping Cody McDonald's header over the bar.
Despite a late flurry of corners, Plymouth protected their new goalkeeper and their clean sheet to take three much-needed points back to Devon, while Wimbledon crashed back to earth following two straight wins.
