Karl Robinson has rejected the chance to take over as head coach at Leeds United after talks with the club's owner Massimo Cellino.
Leeds are preparing to move on to their next target - the club intends to speak to Bristol Rovers about the availability of their manager Darrell Clarke.
Robinson had been made favourite to replace Steve Evans, who only took over at Leeds in October last year.
Evans, who is due back at work on Wednesday, released a statement on Monday morning, saying: "I'm hurting at not knowing my future but I respect the right of the club to make big decisions at a time and manner that suits."
Robinson was appointed manager of MK Dons in May 2010, having previously been the club's assistant under Paul Ince.
He led MK Dons to promotion to the Championship last year, but they were relegated to League One after finishing 23rd this season.
