Premier League: Hull City's Stephen Quinn backs Eldin Jakupovic after error

Hull City midfielder Stephen Quinn has urged goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic to forget about the costly error which handed Southampton victory at the KC Stadium on Saturday.

The Tigers slipped to a 1-0 defeat after Victor Wanyama punished Jakupovic’s scuffed clearance to clinically finish from 40 yards in only the third minute.

Despite the slender scoreline, Southampton were the better side and could have added further goals had they shown the same ruthlessness as the Kenyan defensive midfielder.

Hull, on the other hand, would have been forgiven for wondering what might have been had Jakupovic, who started in the Premier League for only the third time, not fluffed his lines.

But midfielder Quinn insists the Switzerland international must put the incident behind him before he plays again next week in place of the injured regulars Allan McGregor and Steve Harper.

"It's been difficult for Eldin, he's been a long time out as second or third-choice keeper and he came in and did ever so well at Liverpool last week," the Republic of Ireland international said.

"He's a good keeper, but he made a simple mistake and a lot of the time you can get away with those. You can't dwell on it. He has to look to the next game and try to improve.

"I'm sure he will be dejected but he's got to be a man about it and get his head up because it looks like he'll be starting again next week."
