Hull manager Nigel Adkins thinks they will "need a lot of magic" if they are to get anything out of their FA Cup tie at Chelsea.
The Championship strugglers head to Stamford Bridge for the fifth-round tie on Friday night with 12 players on the injured list.
Two of Hull's three wins in 2018 have come against Nottingham Forest and Blackburn in the FA Cup and Adkins accepts they will be up against it.
Speaking ahead of the game, he said: "We need the magic of the FA Cup and we'll need a lot of it because we're going up against a top side with an excellent manager and players who are used to winning things.
"They'll see this competition as an opportunity to go and win another trophy. We're going there under no illusions about the challenge in front of us.
"You have to believe that an upset is possible, though - it's the FA Cup. We'll select a team with some counter-attacking ability and with any opportunities we do get in the game, we have to be ruthless and clinical.
"We'll be up against it defensively because we're going up against a very good side.
"For us, it's all to gain, nothing to lose".
Adkins secured a 2-2 draw when he last managed at Stamford Bridge in January 2013 - only to be sacked by Southampton days later.
He was also on the Chelsea touchline in January 2005 when working as a physio for Scunthorpe, who took the lead only to lose the FA Cup tie 3-1.
"As a kid, you always want to be involved in the FA Cup," he added. "Strange things happen in the FA Cup and you have to believe that something is going to happen for you.
"We have to go there and play without fear because, at the end of the day, Chelsea are expected to win the game.
