Marco Silva is hoping to bolster Hull's squad after seeing his side lose 3-2 on aggregate to Manchester United in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg on Thursday.
The Tigers won the match 2-1 but it is the Red Devils who advance to Wembley, and with Robert Snodgrass set to become the latest player to leave Hull in January month, Silva said he will need some new additions before the closure of the transfer window next week.
"We need to improve our squad with three or four players," he told Sky Sports. "We only work with 15 or 16 players in the week - it's not normal at this level. We need to put in some big work to make our squad more competitive."
Silva also admitted to mixed emotions after seeing his side record their first win over United in 43 years, but still fail to make it to Wembley.
"It was a good result and win but not enough," he added. "It was a good performance from our players, good attitude and many moments in the game we caused big problems for a big team like Man Utd.
"But our goal was to win by two goals or more so it's impossible at this moment to be really, really happy. The last goal at Old Trafford made the difference.
"We had a very good first half, second half [United] had a good reaction and the goal we [conceded] was not a normal goal. We had a moment to control the ball but then they scored. But our players worked well on the pitch and it's important we keep doing that."
Despite the defeat, Silva believes victory on the night will be a good confidence boost for his players, who have now won all three home games in all competitions since his arrival.
"In the last three games at home we won all three," he said. "When I arrived we hadn't won a game in the last two months and we need to continue to keep our organisation at all times and not suffer goals like we did tonight. But it's good confidence for my players and I congratulated them in the changing room."
