Soccer Saturday's Phil Thompson shares his thoughts on Marco Silva's first win as Hull City boss as the Tigers beat Bournemouth 3-1.
The Tigers had fallen behind after less than five minutes when Martin Atkinson pointed to the spot as Harry Maguire tripped the advancing Ryan Fraser, with Junior Stanislas converting the penalty.
Abel Hernandez levelled up the tie after half an hour and grabbed a second five minutes after the restart, before Tom Huddlestone's shot was inadvertently taken over the line by Tyrone Mings.
And Thompson felt that the win at the KCOM on Saturday afternoon was 'massive' for Marco Silva's men.
He said: "This was a massive win - especially with Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal their next games in the league.
"After three minutes they gave away a sloppy penalty - Harry Maguire just sticking out a lazy leg on Ryan Fraser and it’s a penalty kick. You think that would demoralise them; in fairness it did for quite a while.”
He also praised Hernandez's first goal, saying: “It was probably one of the best balls of the day from Andy Robertson. He’s out wide and when you see him put the ball in, Boruc must’ve thought ‘I’m going to come and get this’. Hernandez did very well, because he was under pressure from the defender and Boruc comes too late; that gave them a massive lift.
“Hernandez is fit and it makes life a lot easier for them. Niasse and Evandro got minutes on the pitch so there are pluses all round for Marco Silva”
