Barnsley have signed defender Adam Jackson from Middlesbrough on a three-year deal.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Hartlepool, under former Tyke Craig Hignett, and now moves to Oakwell.
Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom said: "He stood out and excelled in League Two with Hartlepool, and having watched him for a long period of time we know exactly what he is capable of.
"He is ready for the challenge of the Championship. He's a player with great strength and will provide us with a big physical presence at the back.
"His ball distribution, speed, and ability to bring the ball out from the back fits perfectly into our playing style and I'm really looking forward to working with him as we look to continue what has been a superb start to the season."
