Leicester’s fight for a seventh-place finish in the Premier League remains manager Claude Puel’s top priority despite their recent defeat to Newcastle.

They are currently eighth in the league but a win against Burnley on Saturday could move them to within three points of Sean Dyche's side.

"We need a result of course, for a manager the most important thing is to keep the right way and to keep players sometimes fans, sometimes press, I think the right way," he said.

"We've improved a lot since I've come in, and we play with a collective performance, we've shown a lot of quality in games. We're ambitious, we'll try to finish well this season off course. It was a big disappointment after Newcastle because we wasted points, we wasted this game."

A seventh-place finish would also mean Europa League qualification, provided Southampton do not win the FA Cup.

Puel added: "The next two games are crucial for me, to see if we can decide and believe in something or not, it'll be a good challenge. We have to start against Burnley - they have a six-point advantage."

He said: "I think when we finished a game with this quality, without good tempo, it was a big disappointment and frustration for all. I can understand this. It's important to look forward to get a good response.

"It's important to correct those parts of our play but we are not for the moment doing enough to have good consistency in our play, its normal. Step by step we will improve but sometimes of course it's not the game we'd like to play."
