Leicester are still waiting to hear whether their signing of Adrien Silva has gone through.
City requested a two-hour extension to Thursday's 11pm deadline to finalise a £22m move for Sporting Lisbon's Portugal midfielder.
Club officials are confident the paperwork is in order, but the Football Association is still looking into the deal.
In the meantime, Silva, who missed Portugal's 5-1 World Cup qualifying win against the Faroe Islands on deadline day, remains in England.
Leicester targeted the Euro 2016 winner as a replacement for Danny Drinkwater, who was sold to Chelsea for £35m in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
