Peter Schmeichel says Leicester did not play well against Southampton - and yet he now believes they will win the Premier League title.
Leicester earned their fourth 1-0 victory in a row on Super Sunday to move seven points clear of Tottenham, who could only draw with Liverpool on Saturday evening.
Four wins from the remaining six games will guarantee Leicester the first top-flight title in their history and Schmeichel is now convinced his son Kasper will earn a Premier League medal this season.
"There was no doubt this was going to be a difficult game for them," he told Sky Sports.
"Having seen Spurs get a point at Liverpool and closing in to four points, to go out there with the opportunity to go seven points clear with six games to go was massive.
This is championship-winning stuff when you can win your games 1-0, not playing well and getting those three points here and there.
"It's probably the first time they've had an opportunity to think about how this can become a reality.
"In all fairness, they did not play well. As Wes Morgan said, they defended well but the play going forward was not the best they've done this season.
"This is championship-winning stuff when you can win your games 1-0, not playing well and getting those three points here and there."
Schmeichel, who won five Premier League titles with Manchester United, says Leicester's fairytale charge is down to the simple tactics employed by Claudio Ranieri.
He added: "They don't complicate things. It's not a complicated set-up they have. It's very difficult to see the wheels coming off.
"Again today, they went out there and proved that. Everything is just falling into place. I now believe they can go and win it.
"They have to be calm and can't get carried away because six games is still a long, long way to go. Seven points is a fantastic cushion, but you've still got to go out there."
Leicester go into next week's Super Sunday clash with Sunderland having lost just three Premier League games all season.
Graeme Souness joined Schmeichel in the Sky Sports studio - and says it won't be easy to finish the job, but praised the resilience of Ranieri's side.
"There may still be a wobble, but they can afford a wobble," he said.
"In a season, generally there is a down period where you lose a game and it has an affect ion a team and you end up losing a couple.
"Leicester lost to Arsenal and rebounded straight back. They lost to Arsenal again and rebounded straight back. They lost to Liverpool and rebounded straight back. That augurs well for them going forward.
"They were nervy today. They didn't play any football today. They defended like demons - and for as much of the ball as Southampton had, they didn't make the goalkeeper work.
"You have to say they are resilient and if the punch on the nose comes in the next six games, history this season tells you they'll bounce back."
