Claudio Ranieri expects Jamie Vardy to be fit to face Tottenham on Wednesday

Jamie Vardy is recovering well from groin surgery and is in contention to return for Leicester at Tottenham on Wednesday.

The Premier League's joint leading goalscorer had a small procedure and was prescribed a 10-day period of rehabilitation.

But the England striker, who turned 29 on Monday, warmed up with the first team on his birthday before doing a separate training session and is a possibility to face the same team they drew 2-2 with at the weekend in the FA Cup.

Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri said: "He is getting better, on Monday he made the warm-up with the team and then he had a different job. On Tuesday I'll check. I think he could be available.

"The little problem he had with the little operation is done and he can run normally without any problem.

"Jamie had a problem for a month, more or less, and he continued to play. Now without the problem is much better. I'll see if he starts from the beginning, if he is ready to come with me on the bench. Every time he wants to play, I know him."

Ranieri will be desperate to get his side's form back on track at White Hart Lane having slipped two points behind leaders Arsenal after drawing twice and losing in their last three top-flight matches.

On their midweek opponents Spurs, four points behind in fourth spot, Ranieri added: "They are very strong in all areas because they've built a good team. Now they're ready to fight for the top four."

Ranieri made eight changes to his side for their cup game against Spurs, including giving new £3.75m winger Demarai Gray a debut following his move from Birmingham.

"He wasn't 100 per cent but as a 19-year-old, having only had four training sessions with us, in his first match against a Premier League team, he was outstanding. He had a chance to score and worked hard," the Italian said.

Jeff Schlupp remains out with a hamstring injury and Ranieri is again set to reshuffle his starting line-up.

"It's completely different because we will change the players. Every player changes something. Tottenham will be stronger but we are ready to play our football," he added.

"I have to check everybody, on Tuesday we have another training session. Then I'll check and decide the first XI."
